World class bioskills lab facility
Integration with residents and surgical faculty
Opportunity to conduct research in addition to bioskills lab responsibilities
Contribute to Sanford operations and processes while obtaining first hand experiences that align with the mission, vision, and values of the organization. Work collaboratively with organization leadership, enhancing knowledge and skills and improving the delivery of quality healthcare. Assist in the completion of projects and administrative duties while developing skills related to the assigned function and/or location. Attend training and development opportunities, learning about various processes and functions within the organization.
The Bioskills lab focuses on hand-on orthopedics laboratory exercises with Sawbones or cadaveric specimens. The intern will mostly oversee and maintain the bioskills human cadaveric lab, and provide assistant to residents (orthopedic & podiatry), surgeons, and staff on the use of the instrument and equipment.
Provide assistance by cleaning, maintaining, and preparing laboratory work areas.
Oversee and maintain responsibilities related to bioskills human cadaver lab
Provide assistant to all cadaver operational functions and facilitates events specific relating to orthopedic research and resident bioskills lab
Manage and coordinate training assignments, tasks, and scheduling the use of the Bioskills lab for the residents and surgeons
Maintain inventory and cleanliness of facility areas, equipment, and instrumentation use in the lab
Oversee capital equipment preventive maintenance and equipment calibration
Maintain and manage human and animal tissue specimens in the compliance of health and safety with local regulations, organizational standards, policies and procedures related to bioskills human cadaver lab
Assisting to train residents (orthopedic & podiatry), surgeons, and staff on the use of cadaver laboratory environments and simulator equipment
Specific responsibilities, which will be determined during hire, depend on the physician and resident’s needs and the individual’s skill set.
Must be an undergraduate junior or senior, graduate student, or medical student in Biomechanics, Engineering, or Medicine, or an immediate graduate having received one of the previously listed majors.
Must demonstrate a high level of academic achievement in the areas of Biomechanics, Engineering, or Medicine.
Experience with computer software including MATLAB, LabView, AutoCAD, two- and three-dimensional motion capture, or statistics programs highly preferred.
Knowledge of basic surgical instrument highly preferred.
Versatile, flexible, and a willingness to work with constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
Able to manage priorities and workflow, and exercise independent judgement in a team atmosphere.
Must be able to commit to the hours scheduled during the internship period.
Strong oral and written communication, interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Current enrollment or recent graduate of an Associate or Bachelor's degree program from an accredited college or university.
Knowledge of healthcare industry preferred. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
