Job Summary

Responsible for the support of the polysomnography (PSG) collection systems and related equipment. Assists with coordinating the expansion of services and plays a key role in site selection, equipment procurement, installation, and functionality. Responsible for computer upgrades, equipment troubleshooting and related issues, software upgrades, and data management. Assists with accreditation, sources of information, equipment maintenance, and supply ordering. Performs quality diagnostic polysomnographic (PSG) and multiple sleep latency (MSLT) recordings and provide relevant and accurate data to physicians for diagnostic use in the treatment of patients with sleep/wake disorders. Educates and follows-up with patients with prescribed therapies. Responsible for performing either Sleep Study Procedures or Neurological Testing for all patient populations. Understands the testing equipment in detail, including its structure, function, indications for use, physiological effect upon the patient, and basic maintenance procedures. Understands and is able to apply principles of anatomy and physiology, normal and abnormal, related to procedures performed. Possesses a working knowledge of the disease and pathological conditions encountered. Possesses a basic knowledge of sleep disorders, electronics, electrical safety, with skill to utilize computers for patient documentation and data gathering for patient care. Proficiency in the collection of scoring of polysonograms and possess a working knowledge and ability to troubleshoot related computer software, hardware and ancillary equipment. Ability to work with all age groups and those with growth and developmental needs of unique client populations.

Leads in regulating and revising technical standards for Polysomnography. Mentors others to prepare them for responsibilities. Monitors relationships to ensure no co-dependency exists between mentors and mentees. Establishes best practices for employee analysis and evaluation. Plans, estimates, staffs, organizes and monitors significant projects. Participates in developing and monitoring a budget for a specific work group or department. Designs laboratory practice quality assurance process. Performs other site specific duties as required.


Degree in Polysomnography and/or Respiratory Care program required.

Minimum of five years’ experience as a Polysomnographic Technologist with computerized Polysomnographic (PSG) recording systems is preferred.

Current licensure as a Respiratory Therapist (RRT/RRCP) or Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) in state(s) of practice and/or possess multistate licensure privileges as necessary by position is required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and re-certification as necessary is required. Obtainment of continuing education units (CEUs) annually to maintain licensure is required.
