Job Summary

The Pharmacy Business Office Specialist, supports retail pharmacy operations. The position is Monday-Friday no weekends or holidays. Hours are 8:00-4:30 with a half hour lunch. Friday is designated jean day, one of the perks for our small unique department.

We are looking for candidates who are, self-motivated, able to work independently, have an attention detail, and an understanding of insurance. The Pharmacy Business Specialist is a unique position which supports all of the Sanford owned retail pharmacies, which includes: Broadway, I94, South University, Moorhead, Detroit Lakes, Bemidji, Thief River Falls, and Alexandria.

We are a small department with much responsibility. This position requires attention to detail, flexibility, ability to work independently, able to stay on task, and a unique understanding of insurance.

The Pharmacy Business Specialist’s duties and responsibilities are as follows:

  • Mail distribution for pharmacy

  • Daily deposits both insurance and personal payments

  • CARS (Cash Reconciliation Solutions)

  • Tills

  • Insurance benefit verification for our Home Infusion book of business

  • AR Follow up ensuring proper payment has been received

  • Prior authorizations

  • SPAP which is our (Pharmacy Financial Assistance Program)

  • Monitoring customer accounts and statements

  • Collection process

  • Running end of month reports for Finance

  • Medicare and third party audits

  • Patient refunds and rebilling prescriptions

  • Customer service

  • Resource / trouble shooting for pharmacists

  • Recording pharmacy payments in Inmar, (our reconciliation company)

  • Monitoring Medicare claims to ensure payment has been received by all payers.

  • Working denied claims

  • Each staff member is also required to attend webinars through Noridian.

(This is essential in staying current with any changes / requirements of Medicare. This information is then shared to educate pharmacy staff regarding any changes or processes).

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent. Post-secondary education in medical billing and insurance helpful.

Six months’ related work experience in the medical and or pharmacy field preferred. Computer skills essential.

Knowledge of medical billing / insurance helpful.
