Department Details

The Employee Relations team works with leaders and employees to facilitate development of effective relationships and culture. The team consists of ER Spec. from both Good Samaritan and Sanford. Professional, collaborative atmosphere and team work are major attributes of this team. Employee Relations leaders and specialists meet regularly to discuss on-going activities. Collaboration with team members is common and encouraged. Some travel is required although this can generally be planned at the convenience of the specialist. Travel is mostly same day with occasional overnights.

Job Summary

Provides support to leadership and employees regarding employment law, policy interpretation and implementation, and performance management. Provides coaching and counseling related to performance and employee concerns, ensuring compliance with health care laws. Evaluates employee relations issues and concerns and recommends appropriate resolution to management. Coordinates with leadership to manage all areas of employee relations. Responsible for developing, implementing and administering the corrective action process assuring compliance with policies and laws affecting employees. Will counsel employees, managers and groups to facilitate problem resolution. Conduct investigations as it relates to discriminations and harassment complaints. Coaches one or several individuals or teams on leadership, management, or a variety of subject areas. Meet with department leadership, employees or managers to give presentations on training and development of staff. Must be able to negotiate and collaborate with a variety of employees, managers and situations. Must be able to counsel effectively.


Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business, psychology or related field required. In lieu of a bachelor's degree, may consider at least six years of applicable work experience.

Minimum one year experience in employee relations preferred. Working knowledge of human resources policies, practices, procedures, and federal and/or state employment law.

Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification preferred.
