Fargo
Our Fargo, North Dakota location offers a robust, collaborative orthotic and prosthetic environment anchored by the state's only Level 1 trauma center. It is home to the largest team in the region, bringing together CPOs, residents, assistants, technicians, and support staff who work closely across disciplines. With central fabrication on site, the team benefits from streamlined workflows, customization capabilities, and strong collaboration between clinical and technical teams. The location also supports a well-established residency program, fostering continuous learning, mentorship, and professional development. Care is delivered across clinic, hospital, and rural outreach settings, providing exposure to an exceptionally diverse patient population ranging in age from 1 to 100 and encompassing a wide variety of diagnoses and care needs. This breadth of experience creates a dynamic, rewarding environment that emphasizes teamwork, variety, and meaningful patient impact.
Fargo is vibrant, creative, and way more fun than the movie! Anchored by a lively downtown, it's full of craft breweries, indie shops, and a buzzing arts and music scene. Catch a show at the Fargo Theatre, explore the Red River Zoo, get connected in the city with the Red River Farmers Market, or enjoy the city's ever-growing food scene. Thanks to its college-town energy with the NDSU Bison and Midwestern friendliness, Fargo strikes a great balance between youthful excitement and genuine community warmth.
Our Orthotic and Prosthetic department takes pride in supporting our patients. We treat them and their family like part of our own family in each step of their journey whether it be a first time orthotic or prosthetic device or the chance to upgrade with the latest technology. We work to stay one step ahead in patient care and provider knowledge by offering additional paid professional development opportunities so that our team can continuously grow in their practice and showcase that in the level of treatment.

Hear From Our Residents
"We get a lot of experience in the clinical setting but are also regularly involved with the hospitals here in Fargo. It helps me feel like I'm getting more well-rounded training and I'm able to see a lot of things from a different perspective. Everyone is here to help, and it's been really nice to be a part of this group."
-Alex Hennes
"At Sanford Equip, we get one-on-one training from many clinicians and work side by side with other residents. Being in Fargo we get experience with everything, especially because we treat patients in the only level one trauma hospital in North Dakota. If there are certain things that interest you, you can see it and gain experience. We are given responsibilities over time and hone our skills in the real world. This is a great learning environment that is invaluable when figuring out what works for you."
-Nathan Wilch
"I chose to do residency with Sanford based on the goals of residency discussed with the leadership team. I most appreciate that I am given the opportunity to ask questions and speak up if I do not know an answer. On the same note, I am challenged to find answers to my questions through conversation and research."

Orthotist and Prosthetist Student Programs

Orthotist and Prosthetist Residency
We’re committed to training orthotist and prosthetist professionals by building their skills and developing their focus on patients. Our goal is to help residents produce functional products that enable patients to live their lives to the fullest. Through on-site fabrication and collaboration with technicians, our residency program makes this possible. Residents must be registered with the National Commission on Orthotic and Prosthetic Education (NCOPE) before starting the program.
Applications typically open December 1st and close in early January.

Scholarships and Sponsorships
For many of our Orthotic and Prosthetic careers, we have a variety of financial assistance programs to help students and student employees who are pursuing their educational and professional goals. Students can apply for financial aid through one of our Scholarship programs or inquire more about our Sponsorship program for a role as a Certified Prosthetist Orthotist.
