This is a flexible part time position with only the occasional weekend shift.

Job Summary

The Medical Assistant (MA) functions within the administration pre-defined scope of practice guidelines per state location of

practice. The MA in the ambulatory care setting collects subjective and objective health status data from the patient or caregiver and communicates this data to the health care provider. Participates in the care of patients by providing contributing data to licensed health care professionals; and following through on the patient's plan of care under the direction of the provider.

Communicates the provider's written instructions for care to the patient, or caregiver, by transmission of specifically defined information. Will participate in care for patients, across the lifespan, in all phases of preventative care, health maintenance, treatment, and follow-up as patients move in and out of care settings. Performs a variety of duties under the direct supervision of a person licensed to practice medicine. A sampling of the specialized clinical duties performed includes, but is not limited to, obtaining vital signs, preparing patients for examinations, observing and reporting patient's signs or symptoms,

and performing point of care testing.

Qualifications

High school diploma; some college preferred.

Successful completion of Medical Assistant course.

Must maintain national Medical Assistant certification

Knowledge of the processes, methods, and skills of patient registration; ability to apply these theories to obtain, collate and maintain necessary patient information, ensuring the accuracy and punctuality.

Systemically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice and actively participates in quality improvement activities. Documents in a responsible, accountable and ethical manner to promote safe, reliable patient centered care.

Uses results of quality improvement activities to initiate change and promote safe and reliable care. Implements creativity and innovation to improve care delivery and enhance patient and workplace safety. Provides for safe patient transitions and hand offs through effective communication with patient, family and RN/or other care provider – including the patient and family in communications related to their cares. Provides for a patient safety through the use of two patient identifier, safe medication administration practices, hand washing, as examples.
