Sanford Specialty pharmacy is looking for a new team member who has great customer service skills, high attention to detail, adaptable to ever growing department needs, can multi-task with multiple systems, and ability to work well with pharmacy team staff and clinic staff.

Monday - Friday 8:00 AM-5:00 PM

Closed Nights, Weekends and 6 major Holidays!

PRN shifts in our central operations area. Primary patient interactions are completed over the phone.

Pharmacy services are located in Fargo, ND.

Job Summary

Review prescriptions to assure accuracy, to ascertain the needed ingredients, and to evaluate their suitability. Provide information and advice regarding drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and proper medication storage. A Specialty Pharmacy is a pharmacy practice that focuses on providing medications and services for patients with complex and chronic medical conditions. The pharmacy specializes in high-cost medications, complex therapies, rare diseases and providing high touch patient support through comprehensive services including medication education, monitoring and financial assistance.

Sanford Specialty Pharmacy is a fast growing department supporting patients across the entire footprint of Sanford Health. Our primary goal is to provide excellent customer service to our patients to start and maintain on their specialty medication therapy.

A PRN Pharmacist position within the department will focus primarily on job duties in our Central Pharmacy operations space accurately verifying prescriptions and working with central pharmacy technician team.

Clinical Specialty Pharmacist duties may include, but are not limited to:

Manage complex therapies collaborating with health are providers

Complete Initial Assessment patient education and counseling

Provide pharmacist follow up calls to assess for side effects, adherence, progress towards clinical goals, etc.

Complete Clinical prescription review

Accurately verify prescriptions

Ensure safe handling, storage and delivery of medications

Oversight of pharmacy technicians and interns

In a retail/community pharmacy setting, the Pharmacist reviews, interprets and dispenses both prescription and non-prescription medication to patients. The pharmacist takes an active role in responding to prescription issues and advising providers on the selection, dosage, interaction and side effects of medications. Counsels patients on the medication prescription including but not limited to: proper administration, possible side effects, expected response, storage and any other questions posed by the patient. Monitors the health and progress of patients in response to drug therapy. Must be able to learn and utilize new technology as the profession of pharmacy evolves. Provides oversight and clinical supervision for pharmacy series and pharmacy support personnel.

Pharmacy services at Sanford Health may include involvement in acute care surgery, neurology, cardiology, pediatrics, oncology, infusion services, intensive care, general medicine, dialysis, transplant, antimicrobial stewardship, and medication reconciliation. May include decentralized clinical functions, such as direct patient interaction/interdisciplinary team rounding, chart reviews, customer or patient counseling, collecting accurate medication list. May also include centralized clinical functions, such as checking and dispensing medications and overseeing the clinical functions of the IV room.

Qualifications

In a retail/community pharmacy setting: Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy. Must have a thorough knowledge of drugs and their actions; knowledge of state and local regulations.

In a medical center or institutional setting: Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy. Must have a thorough knowledge of drugs and their actions; knowledge of state and local regulations. Hospital experience or residency preferred.

License must be in good standing by the State Board of Pharmacy in state(s) of practice and/or possess multi-state licensure privileges as required by position.
