If you are looking to start your career in behavioral health, Residential programs will provide you with the knowledge, skill, and tools that build the foundation for all behavioral health care. This position offers experience in direct patient care with training and supervision to help you develop your behavioral health intervention skill set. For those with experience in behavioral health, the position will provide opportunities to expand knowledge and use creativity in applying interventions for a diverse range of mental health disorders. Evening hours offer flexibility to students pursuing degrees in behavioral health and related fields.

Some of the backgrounds we are looking for to become part of the team would be those with experience working in the school setting, coaching adults or kids, group home setting, law enforcement, special education, juvenile justice, probation, shelters, experience with Native American cultural healing traditions.
Job Summary
Contributes to the care and safety of psychiatric patients under the direction and control of the psychiatric staff and patient orders. Monitors the safety and whereabouts of all residents in the facility. Observes and reports patient behaviors to clinical staff. Directly interacts with patients and is available for patient support. Delivers and documents specific rehabilitative services to adult patients with mental illness. Implements rehabilitation interventions under the direction of licensed clinical staff. Implements independent living skills training with patients. Provides opportunities for social and interpersonal skills development. Ensures that patient chores and/or daily tasks are complete. May provide transportation for patients, as needed. Under direction, participates in the admission process for patients and ensures that rooms are prepped at time of discharge for the next admission. Contributes to the overall cleanliness and appearance of the facility. Depending on setting, may be responsible for medication distribution.
Interventions that are in the treatment plan but outside the scope of practice for this role must be implemented by appropriately licensed clinical staff. Interventions outside the scope of the treatment plan require approval from the leadership team.
Qualifications
Must meet state-specific requirements.
In Minnesota: Must hold a GED or HS diploma per MN State Statute. Must meet DHS requirements of a Mental Health Rehabilitation Worker by one of the following: Associates of Arts degree (or 2 years post-secondary education) in one of the behavioral sciences or human services, including nursing; or is a registered nurse without a Bachelor's degree; or has 3 years personal life experience with serious and persistent mental illness; or 3 years personal life experience as the primary caregiver to an adult with a serious mental illness or traumatic brain injury; or has 4000 hours supervised paid work experience in the delivery of mental health services to adults with a serious mental illness or traumatic brain injury. Previous experience in providing mental health services to adults is preferred. Good written and verbal communication skills; organizational skills; and the ability to work independently in an effective and efficient manner. Computer skills must be sufficient enough to be able to document information within an electronic medical record.
A valid driver's license may be required, depending on department/facility.
Depending on facility/setting: Must have nursing assistant certification, have completed the 75-hour course and be registered with the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry. Successful completion of a state-approved Trained Medication Assistant course.
